Board Members

The CMA is currently recruiting applicants to serve on its Board. At present we have vacancies for a licensed physician, one who is a member of the Florida Medical Association, and for a licensed dentist. Applicants are not required to be actively practicing. Contractors

The CMA contracts with a variety of licensed medical, mental health, and dental providers to conduct correctional health care surveys. If you are interested in contracting with the CMA, please complete the form on this page.

Board Requirements

The CMA is composed of a seven-member volunteer board, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Florida Senate for a term of four years, and is comprised of health care professionals from various administrative and clinical disciplines. Section 945.602 F.S. specifies that the board should comprise:

  • At least one member must be a physician licensed under chapter 458, and one member may be a physician licensed under chapter 458 or chapter 459.
  • At least two other members must have had at least 5 years’ experience in health care administration.
  • At least one member must have at least 5 years’ experience in the identification and treatment of mental disorders.
  • At least one member must be a dentist licensed under chapter 466 and have at least 5 years’ experience in the practice of dentistry.
  • At least one member must be a nurse licensed under part I of chapter 464 and have at least 5 years’ experience in the practice of nursing.

Contractor Requirements

Independent contractors must:

  • Have the appropriate education/training related to their profession and licensed in their profession.
  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience in their field of practice.
  • Have not work for the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) or FDC contractor within the past two years.
  • Undergo FDC background screening.
  • Register as a state of Florida vendor through My Florida Marketplace.
